GLOBAL
LEADERSHIP RESOURCE DEVLOPMENT:
OIKOSNET Reinvents Itself After Evaluation
and 24 Month Transition Period
Stony Point, NY. June 27th, 2005
Representatives from the OIKOSNET network
At its 28th Annual Encounter from June 23rd to 27th, 2005 at the
Stony Point Centre near New York, OIKOSNET set sails on a new course
for the coming years. Based on an evaluation in 2002-2003 and a
subsequent 24 month transition and restructuring period, OIKOSNET
seventeen leaders from around the world took a number of strategic
decisions regarding the main focus of OIKOSNET activities, the
working structures and governance principles, as well as the legal
foundation for OIKOSNET as a truly global network of Christian
laity and retreat centres, academies, and movements of social concern:
- OIKOSNET redefines itself and sees its role in the wider ecumenical
movement as a global leadership resource development
agency.
- OIKOSNET will take its global pilot project on DIALOGUE
FOR PEACEFUL CHANGE to scale by offering training
courses around the world in 2007. It sees this as a contribution
to the WCC’s Decade to Overcome Violence.
- Before the end of this year OIKOSNET will be registered as
a foundation (Stichting) under Dutch law in
Utrecht/Netherlands.
- Equally before the end of this year the OIKOSNET SUPPORT
FOUNDATION will be established in the United States as a foundation
under US law.
- OIKOSNET will be governed by a BOARD OF REGIONS with
rotating composition that meets annually. A CORE COMMITTEE will
oversee the work between meetings. The COORDINATION of
OIKOSNET will be carried out through one of the member regions
on the basis of two year contracts. For the years 2006 and 2007
this will be EAALCE-OIKOSNET EUROPE in Brussels/Belgium. Thus,
OIKOSNET will establish a flexible and light governing model.
- OIKOSNET decided on a multi year work plan and a portfolio
of global programmes. It designed a structured process
for planning and carrying out its global activities. There
will be an evaluation after five years time.
- OIKOSNET will actively take part in the 9th General
Assembly of the World Council of Churches in Porto Alegre (2006).
